Department Scientific Activity

Every year the Department of Foreign Languages organizes and conducts scientific and practical conferences:

  • International Student Scientific and Practical Conference "Science, Culture and Youth" (April)
  • International Scientific and Practical Conference "Innovation and Priorities in Teaching Humanitarian Disciplines in Technical University" (February)

The topic of research area "Development and application of modern educational technologies in the process of teaching foreign languages to form students' professional competence "has been approved at the Department of Foreign Languages. Project coordinator - Tamara Krasikova, head of the Department, professor. Work on the topic is of an applied nature.

The main areas of the Department of Foreign Languages research activities:

  • Studying the specifics of professional foreign language communication in the field of economics, finance, management, customs, information technology, applied informatics, technical systems management, rocket engineering, design and others;
  • Analysis of complexity and interaction in cross-disciplinary links;
  • Development of optimal techniques and methods for developing students' professional communicative competence;
  • Acquisition of skills and flexibility of thinking while using modern technologies.

The results of scientific activities are reflected in the modern textbooks published by the Department of Foreign Languages for future use in bachelor, master, postgraduate and distance learning groups.

The textbooks prepared by the Department lecturers harmoniously combine classic conceptual paradigms and the latest forms of learning. The selection of information material and the structuring of exercises are based on the cognitive and communicative needs of the students. The main purpose of teaching foreign languages is the acquisition of communicative and professional competencies by the students.

The teaching staff of the Department takes part in scientific conferences and round tables held both at the University of Technology as well as at other Russian and foreign universities.

Department Laboratory

Educational Laboratory of Linguistics

The main task of the Laboratory is to provide quality education for the students studying at the University of Technology based on the use of modern teaching methods, as well as work with students under the professional retraining program "Translator in the sphere of professional communication".

The laboratory assumes work with the students studying in major "Linguistics" (Master degree).

The laboratory carries out the following activities:

  • Organizing educational, methodical and research activity for students (Bachelors, Masters and Post-Graduates);
  • Conducting seminars and master-classes;
  • Organizing the student translation internship;
  • Assisting in preparing qualifying papers by Masters and final qualification theses by translators;
  • Assisting in pre-graduate internship;
  • Conducting scientific conferences, seminars and student Olympiads in the field of foreign languages and linguistics.

Professional Retraining Program

Translator in the sphere of professional communication

Today, the education of a future professional is closely connected with a person-oriented approach to education. This implies the formation of professional communicative competence and may be considered as the main component of the intercultural communicative competence of a future specialist. At the Department of Foreign Languages when forming professional competence , much attention is paid to improving the foreign language. The knowledge of foreign languages will help the future specialist not only to assess the long-term prospects of science, technology, economy and society but also to define strategic directions for research and new technologies that can bring the greatest socio-economic benefits. For these purposes, the Department of Foreign Languages has been running a professional retraining program "Translator in the sphere of professional communication" for 12 years.

The goal of the program is:

  • formation of professional competence of the industrial translator in the following activities - written translation of scientific, technical, professional sources and documentation;
  • translation within the framework of professional and business communication;
  • conducting business correspondence;
  • formation of certain professionally important personality traits of a future specialist.

Training under the professional retraining program "Translator in the sphere of professional communication" is held for 3 years. The total complexity of the program is 1500 hours. Of these: 755 hours of classroom studies and 745 hours of students' independent work. The program provides for both practical and lecture classes. The study of each curriculum discipline ends with the final control of knowledge in the form of a credit or an exam. The forms of training are lectures, practical classes, students' independent work. In the 6th semester the translation internship is carried out for 5 weeks at the enterprises of Moscow and the Moscow region.

At the end of the training, the final certification is carried out. Future specialists pass two qualification exams in the disciplines "Practice of the English language" and "Professionally oriented translation".

The training ends with the defense of the final certification paper.

The maximum study load for the professional retraining program is 12-14 hours per week, depending on the year of study.

1. Stylistics of the Russian language and culture of speech.
2. Introduction to linguistics.
3. Basics of the theory of the language being studied, including:
3.1. Theoretical grammar of the language studied.
3.2. Stylistics of the language studied.
3.3. Lexicology of the language studied.
4. Practical course of the language studied.

Module "Special Disciplines"

1. Theory of translation.
2. Practical course of professionally oriented translation.
